      FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR THE NEW YORK STATE ARTHUR O. EVE HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (HEOP)

      The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has issued an announcement of funding opportunity for the New York State Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).

      • Grant announcement GC19-008 is posted on the HEOP webpage as well as the Funding Opportunities webpage.
      • Eligible applicants: Non-public institutions of higher education (including for-profit IHEs) incorporated by the Legislature or chartered by the Board of Regents and offering two- or four-year degree programs registered with and approved by the Board of Regents may submit proposals for program support. Programs must serve matriculated students who are working toward a degree.
      • Questions about this opportunity must have been sent to HEOPRFP@nysed.gov by Monday, March 25, 2019.
      • A Questions and Answers summary will be posted by Friday, April 5, 2019.
      • A prerecorded webcast will also be posted on April 5 at the same time to the HEOP website.
      • All applications must be submitted/postmarked by Friday, April 19, 2019.

      INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION ENROLLMENT DATA

      Enrollment data for 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 will be posted soon on the data.nysed.gov website. These data are reported to NYSED by individual institutions of higher education through the HEDS system and are currently available in Microsoft Excel format on the ORIS website. Enrollment data for 2018 will also be posted in the near future. Additional data sets will be added to the data.nysed.gov website in the future, with Enrollment of College Students with Disabilities planned as the next data release.

      NEW YORK STATE TEACHER CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS (NYSTCE) SAFETY NETS EXPIRING CRITICAL INFORMATION FOR YOUR CANDIDATES

      The safety nets for the following Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) are available until June 30, 2019: American Sign Language, Cantonese, English as a Second Language (ESOL), French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mandarin, Russian, Social Studies, and Spanish. The safety nets for these tests allows candidates to take either the current (redeveloped) CST or the safety net (predecessor) CSTexternal link.

      For Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) Generalist certification, the predecessor Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (Grades 7-12), Part Two: Mathematics (242) testexternal link and its safety net is available until June 30, 2019. The revised Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (Grades 7-12), Part Two: Mathematics (244) testexternal link test does not have a safety net.

      NEW YORK STATE TEACHER CERTIFICATION EXAMINATIONS (NYSTCE) TEST DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

      The Department continues to recruit educators to participate in item bank expansion activities and other test development activities in all NYSTCE fields.? The following fields are slated for further development in the fall of 2019: Arts (Dance, Music, Theater, and Visual Arts), English Language Arts, Literacy, Multi-subject: Teachers of Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 2), and Physical Education. Certified P-12 educators and higher education professionals, including both higher education teacher preparation faculty and higher education faculty who have content expertise, are encouraged to apply by visiting the Educator Involvement Opportunities webpage and completing the online applicationexternal link.
